Abstract: In this paper, by using the Quest 3D package we design a three dimensional virtual game associated with paper incline image detection as the control interface to replace the mouse and keyboard. In image preprocessing, we map the color image from the RGB into YIQ planes, and select the IQ planes for image identification because the Y plane is easily inferred by luminance. For paper incline image detection, the image formation principle and Euclidean distance are used to achieve corrective identification. While playing the game, the user changes the paper incline to control the flow of the balance-ball. This action induces an unfilled corner problem when detecting the incline direction of the paper from the image. To solve the problem, we first find out the four outside corner points and rebuild the rectangular shape of the paper. After the paper incline orientation is obtained, we pass it into the Quest3D package through an USB port. Thus, the virtual 3D balance-ball game is completed by using paper incline as the control interface. Several experimental results demonstrate that our scheme is an effective and convenient method for a 3D game. And the control interface using paper incline image detection can replace exactly the mouse and keyboard. (19 refs)
