This study presents the design and implementation of an active noise control (ANC) system with adaptive feedback control in a headset. The filtered-x least-mean-square error algorithm with a correlation method to adjust step size is designed to compensate for the effects of the secondary-path, and then to estimate anti-noise with the phase opposite to the noise for reducing the noise level. The secondary-path is estimated by a system identification method before starting the ANC system. The study results demonstrate that the implemented feedback ANC headset system can achieve satisfactory noise cancellation for single and multi-frequency sinusoidal noises, and for engine noises at both high and low speeds.
