This study presents a modified WiMAX Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) code for realistic LDPC-coding system architectures. The LDPC code has an efficient encoding algorithm because of the simple structure of its parity-check matrices. This study proposes a distribution of the irregular parity-check matrix for the modified WiMAX LDPC to obtain a low-complexity architecture design and achievable circuit implementation. The modified WiMAX LDPC-decoding method includes an iterative min-sum algorithm and its architecture design uses the bit node unit and check node unit. Thus, it is capable of simulating different word lengths in the LDPC decoder hardware design. Therefore, an 8-bit word length is enough for hardware implementation.
