In Taiwan, the aging population and decreasing birth rate have resulted in a shortage of healthcare staff. Older adults and patients suffering from chronic disease and needing long-term care all require ongoing monitoring of their physiological conditions. Parameters that require monitoring include electrocardiogram (ECG) measures, cardiac index, body temperature (TE), blood pressure, cardiovascular status, and oxygen concentration. This study investigated the use of Bluetooth to transmit ECG measurements to a handheld mobile communication device; the data were then stored in a remote database via the mobile network. The physiological signals were divided into small modules that operated independently, and were therefore suitable for home use. The server was then take a medical diagnosis and implements the application of carry-care system. (12 refs)
