In this paper, we study an adaptive matrix embedding algorithm, which is a steganographic scheme directly in uencing the embedding complexity. The method is based on matrix embedding technique. For matrix embedding, finding the stego with minimum distortion is difficult. This study proposes an adaptive algorithm to reduce the complexity of ME and to improve the embedding efficiency of ME. We studied the tradeoff in steganography between the embedding efficiency and the embedding complexity. This study proposes an adaptive suboptimal algorithm, called the independent transformation embedding (ITE) algorithm. The ITE algorithm uses matrix embedding combined with the least significant bit (LSB) technique to extend to general case. The simulation results indicate that the ITE embedding algorithm has the advantage of adaptive embedding compared with conventional embedding algorithms. Moreover, the experimental results also demonstrate the improvement in steganographic complexity when incorporating the proposed ITE to the grayscale images. © 2012 ICIC International. (10 refs)
